“Killer-boyfriends” on the rise: UNIPORT loses Justina Nkang

It is barely a week since Killaboi was arrested, after killing his girlfriend and fleeing to Sierra Leone. We rejoiced only to be deafened by another “Killer-boyfriend” episode featuring Justina Nkang.

Collins an alleged ritual killer, murdered and dismembered the body parts of his girlfriend, Otuene Justina Nkang, a 300-level biochemistry student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

Justina who was reported missing, was found dead in Collins residence at Road 15, NTA Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Collins was caught by the estate security officers while attempting to dispose of Justina’s body.

Witnesses moved into his living space where the mutilated body of his late girlfriend was found placed in sacks dripping with blood. Reports have it that Justina’s eyes were plucked out and her breast removed

Gruesome indeed! One wonders how a couple who appeared all loved up in a viral video got to this point. The statement “the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked” summarises this.

However, Collins is not the first boyfriend to walk this path, but more worrisome is the increase of ugly cases of this nature.

This October, the Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Professor Mrs Rose Aziza raised an alarm over rising incidents of ritual killing of young girls in Delta state by their male friends who are Yahoo boys.

We can also recall that Benjamin Nnanyereugo ‘Killaboi’ killed his 21-year-old girlfriend, Augusta Osedion on the 13th of July at his Oral Estate, in Ajah, Lagos.

He fled to Sierra Leone where he changed his identity, but was tracked by Augusta’s family and with the help of Sierra Leonean police caught and is now in the custody of the Nigeria police in Lagos.

In August, a suspected Yahoo boy, Victor Ifakachukwu was arrested in Benin City for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend.

Again, Favour Daley-Oladele, a final year student of Sociology at Lagos State University (LASU) was killed by her boyfriend, Owolabi Adeeko, 23.

Owolabi lured Favour to Ikire under the pretense of visiting his uncle, while Owolabi, his mother- Bola, 46, and Prophet Philip Segun had already arranged to use her for money ritual.

Owolabi later smashed Favour on the head with a pestle in the church, killing her. Her organs were used for a ritual, and her remains were buried in a shallow grave outside the church on December 8, 2019.

Owolabi and Segun were sentenced to death by hanging for murder and conspiracy, while his mother was convicted of eating human flesh.

The list goes on.

We do not who is next, even while we pray that there will not be a next time. But the truth remains that behind the smile lurks a killer mind, you could be in a relationship with a possible ‘killaboi’. Be safe.
