Philip Shuibu, Garba Gadi, & Ali Olanusi… 8 other deputy governors impeached in Nigeria
On Monday, the Edo State House of Assembly impeached Comrade Philip Shaibu from his position as deputy governor, citing allegations of misconduct.

Simon Achuba (Kogi State)
In October 18, 2019, Simon Achuba faced impeachment as Kogi State’s deputy governor due to alleged gross misconduct, decreed by the State House of Assembly.
Subsequently, Edward Onoja was appointed as his replacement by former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.
Peremobowei Ebebi (Bayelsa State)
Peremobowei Ebebi, once impeached as the deputy governor of Bayelsa State by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in June 2010, was reinstated by the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt on February 16, 2011.
Rauf Olaniyan (Oyo State)
On July 18, 2022, Rauf Olaniyan faced impeachment by the Oyo State House of Assembly, stripping him of his position as the deputy governor of Oyo State.
The decision followed his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that occurred despite being elected alongside state governor Seyi Makinde.
Eze Madumere (Imo State)
Eze Madumere faced impeachment as Imo State’s deputy governor on July 31, 2018. Yet, his reinstatement followed a few months later when the Imo State High Court in Owerri ruled his impeachment null and void, devoid of legal validity.
Sunday Onyebuchi (Enugu State)
In Enugu, Sunday Onyebuchi faced impeachment as the deputy governor on August 26, 2014, after allegations of gross misconduct surfaced.
However, he regained his position on December 18, 2015, thanks to a ruling from the Enugu High Court under the jurisdiction of Justice Reuben Odugu.
Ali Olanusi (Ondo State)
Ali Olanusi, once the deputy governor under former governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, faced impeachment in 2015 following his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), amidst allegations of misconduct.

However, the Appeal Court in Akure nullified the impeachment on March 24, 2017.
Mahdi Aliyu Gusau (Zamfara State)
In February 23, 2022, every legislator at the Zamfara State House of Assembly supported the ousting of Mahdi Aliyu Gusau from his position as deputy governor.
Nonetheless, a year later, a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja reinstated him to his former role.
Garba Gadi (Bauchi State)
Garba Gadi faced dismissal from his position as the deputy governor of Bauchi State on August 13, 2009, following accusations of severe misconduct.
Nevertheless, he made a comeback to his role exactly a year later, on June 25, 2010.
