Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa assumes the role of Ondo State’s new governor, marking a historic turn in the state’s political narrative.

His inauguration follows the poignant passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu due to prostate cancer, underscoring the unique circumstances surrounding Aiyedatiwa’s ascent to leadership.



1. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is the newly sworn-in governor of Ondo State.

2. His emergence into office follows the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from prostate cancer.



3. Aiyedatiwa’s first name, “Lucky,” is perceived by many as a factor that brought him to the position of governor.

4. He hails from Obe-Nla in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, born on January 12, 1965.

5. Aiyedatiwa attended Saint Peter’s UNA Primary School and Ikosi High School before proceeding to Lagos State College of Education.

6. He was a classroom teacher before venturing into business, establishing his own business in 1996.

7. Aiyedatiwa joined politics in 2011 and became a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and later the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014.

8. Former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as a Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from 2018 to 2019.

9. Aiyedatiwa served as the National Public Relations Officer for the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) from 2004 to 2010.

10. In 2023, he became the acting governor of Ondo State twice, first in July during Governor Akeredolu’s medical leave and later in December after Akeredolu’s death.
