FIFA ranking: Spain, England move up, Nigeria drops… see full list
The latest FIFA World Rankings have been announced, and there are some significant changes in the standings.
France and Argentina continue to hold the top two positions, having won the most recent World Cups. However, England’s impressive performance at Euro 2024 has earned them a higher ranking.
Spain’s victory in the tournament has propelled them ahead of England to take the third spot while the three lions who are currently without a coach after Gareth Southgate’s resignation occupies the fourth position.
The Super Eagles‘ of Nigeria dropped from 38th to 39th in the global rankings after falling eight places in the last ranking.
Venezuela were the biggest climbers after jumping 17 places up while Czech dropped 13 place down. Spain earned the 105.75 points, the most by any nation.

On the other hand, some teams have experienced drops in their rankings. Brazil, Belgium, and Portugal had disappointing performances at Copa America and Euro 2024, resulting in lower standings. Scotland and Hungary also saw significant drops in their rankings.

3. Spain
4. England
5. Brazil
6. Belgium
7. Netherlands
8. Portugal
9. Colombia
10. Italy
Other teams have also seen improvements in their rankings. Colombia and Switzerland have risen in the standings despite not winning their respective tournaments.
Turkey made a remarkable jump, rising 16 places after a strong showing at Euro 2024. Austria, Uruguay, Germany, Canada, and Panama have also moved up the ranks.
New Zealand made a remarkable jump into the top 100 after winning the OFC Nations Cup. Angola and Niger also saw significant improvements in their rankings.
The FIFA World Rankings are based on points earned by teams through their performances in international tournaments and matches. The rankings can fluctuate significantly based on a team’s recent results.
Some teams, like Congo, experienced drops in their rankings without playing any matches, highlighting the complexities of the ranking system. San Marino remains at the bottom of the rankings, still seeking their first international win.
The next FIFA ranking is expected on 19th September, 2024.
