Ajibola Afonja, the ex-Minister of Labour and Chairman of First Bank Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 82. 

According to a family source, the Oyo-born Prince breathed his last on Sunday night at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Professional Career: 

  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Bank Plc.
  •  Appointed as Minister of Labour under the interim government of Earnest Shonekan.
  • Chairman of Integrated Dimensional System and several other companies.

  •  Attended Kingston University, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom.
  •   Graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1970.

Work Experience: 

  • Started work with John Mowlem & Co, a UK-based construction firm, after graduation.
  • Served as a subsidiary company accountant and later as Group Assets Management Accountant.

Contributions to Oyo Community: 

  • Recognized for his pioneering efforts as an industrialist in the Oyo community.
  • Remembered for his generosity and open-heartedness, which touched countless lives.

  • Affectionately known as “Daddy IDS” due to his association with his manufacturing company.
