Why Arsenal Want Bournemouth Star Eli Junior Kroupi
Arsenal are keeping tabs on Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi as they assess attacking options ahead of the January transfer window, with the 20-year-old’s breakthrough Premier League season helping explain the interest.
Kroupi became one of the Premier League’s most talked-about young forwards last season after scoring 13 goals in 33 appearances for Bournemouth. His numbers, versatility and age have made him an attractive option for clubs looking for a long-term attacking investment.
Reports have suggested Arsenal’s interest in Kroupi is serious, although a deal would not be straightforward. Bournemouth are reportedly looking for a fee of at least £80 million, while the player remains under contract with the Cherries until 2030.
Why Arsenal want Eli Junior Kroupi
The biggest reason behind Arsenal’s interest is Kroupi’s ability to combine goals with the flexibility to operate in different attacking positions.
During his first full Premier League campaign, the France Under-21 international scored 13 goals from 33 league appearances, despite starting 21 matches. His 13 goals came from just 1,674 minutes, meaning he averaged a goal roughly every 129 minutes.
Those numbers are particularly notable because Kroupi was only 19 during the campaign.
His breakthrough also followed an impressive spell in France. Before moving to Bournemouth, Kroupi scored 22 goals in 30 Ligue 2 appearances for Lorient during the 2024/25 season. He therefore arrived in England with a record of producing goals rather than simply being viewed as a promising academy player.
That progression is part of what has attracted attention from bigger Premier League clubs.
Kroupi’s numbers explain the interest
Kroupi’s Premier League output was not built around a huge number of appearances or minutes.
He made 33 appearances but started 21 of those matches, playing 1,674 minutes in total. He scored 13 goals without scoring a penalty, according to his 2025/26 league statistics.
His goals-per-90 figure was around 0.70, placing him among the most productive young attacking players in the league by that measure.
The numbers also show why his reputation has grown so quickly.
Kroupi had already demonstrated his goalscoring ability in France before producing at Premier League level. His 22-goal Ligue 2 campaign came after he had scored 12 goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Lorient during the previous season.
For Arsenal, that progression provides evidence that his Premier League season was not an isolated burst of form.
Arsenal are not the only club interested
Arsenal’s interest has been reported alongside attention from other major clubs.
Manchester City have previously been linked with enquiries for Kroupi, while Liverpool and Manchester United have also been mentioned in reports about his future.
That competition could become important if Bournemouth eventually decide to listen to offers.
However, Bournemouth have little obvious reason to rush into a sale.
Kroupi’s contract reportedly runs until 2030, giving the club significant control over his future. Reports have placed his valuation above £80 million, with some estimates putting the figure closer to £100 million.
That would make any Arsenal move a major financial commitment for a player who has completed only one full Premier League season.
The injury could affect Arsenal’s plans
There is also a more immediate complication surrounding Kroupi.
The Bournemouth forward suffered a fractured metatarsal during pre-season and underwent surgery. Reports indicate that his recovery could keep him out until around October or November.
That means clubs interested in him will have to assess how quickly he returns to competitive football before making a significant commitment.
For Arsenal, that could make the January window particularly important.
Rather than judging Kroupi solely on what he achieved last season, the club would have the opportunity to watch his recovery and performances after returning from injury before deciding whether to make a formal approach.
What Kroupi could bring to Arsenal
Kroupi’s development also gives Arsenal an option who is still at the beginning of his career.
He has already demonstrated that he can score regularly in England, but his age means there is considerable room for further development.
His career has also followed a steep upward trajectory.
He progressed from Ligue 1 to a 22-goal Ligue 2 campaign before joining Bournemouth and scoring 13 Premier League goals in his first full season in England.
That record makes him different from an established striker being recruited primarily for immediate output.
Arsenal would instead be investing in a young forward who has already produced at two different levels of French football and then translated that form into the Premier League.
The £80m question
The biggest obstacle to an Arsenal move could ultimately be the price.
Reports have placed Bournemouth’s valuation at more than £80 million, with some reports suggesting the Cherries could demand close to £100 million. Kroupi is also tied to Bournemouth until 2030, strengthening the club’s negotiating position.
For Arsenal, that creates a significant decision.
Kroupi has the age and statistics to make him an attractive long-term signing, but his Premier League sample remains relatively small and he is currently recovering from a serious foot injury.
The January transfer window could therefore provide an important test.
If Kroupi returns from injury and quickly reproduces the form that produced 13 Premier League goals last season, Arsenal’s interest could develop further. But Bournemouth’s valuation means any move would require a substantial financial commitment.
