Verydarkman: Meet the activist always trending for controversial reasons
Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, is a Nigerian activist, critic, and social media influencer known for addressing social issues.
Thirty years old, Otse was born on April 8, 1994, hails from Edo State, grew up in Lagos, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos.
He first came into the limelight after calling out Jenny’s Glow and other skincare manufacturers for selling harmful, non-registered organic body products to customers. This made him gain fame, followers, and support.
Known for his favorite line, “Don’t play or you’re gonna learn, and you’re gonna learn the hard way,” VeryDarkMan never shies away from airing his opinion on controversial issues, events, or personalities. VeryDarkMan simply thrives on controversy.
After Mohbad’s death, he made statements about the paternity of Mohbad’s child and the police investigation, stating that Mohbad’s wife is a prime suspect.
Following the invasion of Bokkos located in Plateau State, by unknown gunmen, VeryDarkMan, also called VDM, visited the local government and gave live reports and analysis of the situation, alleging that it was invaded because of the discovery of tin and that the invasion was political.

He has had face-offs with celebrities including Tonto Dike, Iyabo Ojo, Nkechi Blessing, Blessing CEO, and Bobrisky, who is currently in prison for naira mutilation, among others. However, VeryDarkMan has been arrested several times for making questionable statements.
In March 2024, VeryDarkMan was arrested for alleged cyberbullying. He faced five counts of cyberstalking, including false allegations against Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, as well as accusations of misconduct against senior police officers and lawmakers.
On June 30, 2024, VeryDarkMan was widely reported to have been arrested by Nigerian police at his Abuja residence. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the incident, linking it to defamation allegations following VeryDarkMan’s social media exposé.
VeryDarkMan allegedly defamed an individual accused of scamming a Nigerian abroad. Adeyanju criticized the police for targeting VeryDarkMan instead of the alleged scammer. The police denied arresting him, stating he was only invited for questioning. He was released after a couple of hours.
VDM has been linked with and endorsed by top celebrities including Davido, Tunde Ednut and others.
