Samsung’s Android 17 Update: 5 New Features Coming to Galaxy A16 and A35

Samsung’s Android 17 update introduces five notable changes to the Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A35, including smarter photo search, a redesigned Quick Panel, improved phone security and a new warranty dashboard.

Samsung has started rolling out its latest software upgrade to two popular mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A35.

The update brings One UI 9, based on Android 17, with improvements designed to make the devices smoother, easier to customise and more convenient to use.

According to PhoneArena, the new software packages are approximately 3GB each. Samsung began distributing them in late October 2026, allowing eligible users to upgrade from Android 16-based One UI 8.5.

Beyond the software upgrade, the release introduces several features that change how users search for pictures, manage phone settings and protect their devices.

Here are five new features Galaxy A16 and A35 owners should know about.

1. Search photos using everyday words

One of the notable additions is Home Finder, a feature that allows users to locate pictures using natural-language descriptions.

Instead of scrolling through hundreds of photographs, users can enter words describing the image they want to find.

The feature works similarly to the natural-language photo search available in Google Photos. It makes finding specific pictures easier, particularly for people with large photo collections.

2. Customisable Quick Panel

Samsung has also improved the Quick Panel, giving users more control over its appearance and arrangement.

The updated panel comes with a more polished layout and additional customisation options.

Users can organise frequently used controls to make important settings easier to access.

This could improve everyday navigation, especially for people who regularly adjust brightness, volume, connectivity and other phone settings.

3. New Warranty and Care dashboard

Another addition is the Warranty and Care dashboard located within the phone’s Settings.

The feature provides access to warranty information and device-care details.

It is designed to make it easier for users to check information about their smartphones without navigating through several different menus.

However, availability may depend on the user’s region.

4. Easier access to Lockdown Mode

The update also changes how users activate Lockdown Mode.

Previously, accessing the security feature could require navigating through different settings. With One UI 9, users can activate it through the power menu.

They only need to long-press the power button and select Lockdown Mode.

Once activated, the phone requires the user’s password or pattern to unlock it. This adds an extra layer of protection when someone else might attempt to access the device.

5. Smoother and faster performance

Samsung has also focused on improving the overall performance of both smartphones.

According to PhoneArena, One UI 9 is more optimised, helping applications open faster and making navigation feel smoother.

Early users of the Galaxy A16 and A35 have also reported improved responsiveness after installing the update.

However, some users have raised concerns about battery optimisation. Battery performance may take time to stabilise after a major software installation.

How to download Android 17 on Galaxy A16 and A35

Owners of the two smartphones can check for the update by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2. Select Software update.
  3. Tap Check for updates.
  4. Download and install the update if it is available.

Samsung recommends ensuring that the phone has at least 30% battery power before installation.

The rollout is happening in stages, so users who cannot find the update immediately may need to check again later.

The upgrade also extends the software life of both smartphones. Samsung has promised the Galaxy A16 six generations of major Android upgrades, while the Galaxy A35 is covered by four generations.

The Galaxy A16 is expected to receive updates up to Android 20, while the Galaxy A35 is expected to end its major operating system upgrades with Android 18.
