Response to Cross River government’s corrigendum on the appointment of Prince Dan Onah

The media team of Prince Dan Onah has questioned the Cross River State Government’s claim that his inclusion in a recent list of appointments approved by Governor Senator Bassey Edet Otu was an administrative error.

In a statement, the team reacted to a corrigendum released by the state government which stated that the inclusion of Onah’s name as Director of the Cross River State Hydrocarbon Agency in an earlier appointment announcement was a mistake.

While expressing respect for the government’s right to clarify its official records, the media team said the circumstances surrounding the development raise concerns about the level of diligence exercised in handling public communications and appointments.

According to the statement, government appointments are sensitive matters that require thorough verification before being made public because of their implications for both the affected individuals and the public.

The team noted that shortly after the initial appointment announcement was made public, Onah acknowledged the gesture and expressed appreciation to Governor Otu and the Cross River State Government for the recognition.

However, it stated that Onah subsequently declined the appointment in order to remain focused on his political ambition of representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

“Consequently, the claim that his inclusion was merely an administrative error naturally raises questions, especially considering that the appointment was officially published and widely circulated before the subsequent correction,” the statement said.

The media team said the incident underscores the need for greater diligence, internal verification and professionalism in the management of government communications.

Despite the controversy, the statement said Onah remains grateful to the government and people of Cross River State for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment announcement.

It added that he remains committed to the political, social and economic advancement of the people of Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency and will continue consultations and engagement across communities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Below is the statement:

PRESS STATEMENT
RE: CORRIGENDUM ON RECENT APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT

The attention of the Prince Dan Onah Media Team has been drawn to the corrigendum issued by the Cross River State Government regarding the recent list of appointments approved by His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, wherein it was stated that the inclusion of Prince Onah’s name as Director of the Hydrocarbon Agency was a mistake.

While we respect the government’s prerogative to clarify its official records, the circumstances surrounding this development raise serious concerns about the level of attention to detail exercised in matters of public communication and appointments.

Government appointments are sensitive issues that require thorough verification before being made public, as such announcements carry significant implications for the individuals concerned and the general public.

It is important to note that immediately after the initial appointment announcement, Prince Onah publicly acknowledged the honour done to him by the Governor and the Government of Cross River State.

However, in the interest of his political aspirations and commitment to the people of Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, he respectfully declined the appointment in order to remain focused on his pursuit of the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections.

Consequently, the claim that his inclusion was merely an administrative error naturally raises questions, especially considering that the appointment was officially published and widely circulated before the subsequent correction.

This situation underscores the need for greater diligence, internal verification, and professionalism in the management of government communications.

Prince Onah remains grateful to the Government and people of Cross River State for the confidence and recognition that his years of service have earned him.

More importantly, he remains unwavering in his commitment to the political, social, and economic advancement of the people of Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency.

His focus remains firmly on consulting with constituents, building bridges across Communities, and pursuing a people-oriented representation that will bring meaningful development and effective leadership to Ogoja/Yala.

Signed:
