Pride or self-respect? Burna Boy exit stage during performance
Nigerian star and Grammy award winning artist Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy has sparked widespread controversy following his action at a recently held event in Lagos.
During the highly anticipated Greater Lagos Countdown show in Nigeria, Burna Boy was said to have reportedly walked off stage during his performance leaving fans and organizers stunned by such act.

According to Punch online, in a viral video on Wednesday, a fan breached security and jumped on the stage to touch Burna Boy during his performance, which paused the singer’s performance. Security agents intervened and took the guy away. Moments later, Burna Boy left the stage without prior announcement or explanation.
This act has raised a huge dust on the internet as netizens dropped their pieces of cakes on the artist’s behaviour.
Many criticised him, arguing that he’s arrogant and so full of himself, while others defended his act, arguing that it’s self-respect, as the singer has severally warned against fans jumping on his stage.
Soap Central captured a tweet on X that said, “If not pride, what is it? Hold on a second. Someone paid you for a show; you delivered your own side of the job halfway because a fan jumped on the stage to touch you. I’m yet to understand the rationale behind him leaving the stage in such an awful way. Does Burna Boy not get touched by humans?”
Meanwhile, Burna Boy has reacted to the viral backlash. According to Vanguard news, the music star took to his Instagram story and wrote, “It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 mins and did almost an hour. Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that. I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy New Year.”
Meanwhile, Burna Boy has been one of the most controversial musicians who’s always in the news due to controversies.
A few months back, he was on the lips of netizens over the detention of Speed Darlington (Akpi), whom he arrested because the latter made a video where he was defamed and portrayed negatively in relation to Fela Kuti.
Burna threw shade at Davido, another popular artist, calling him out anonymously over lies and deceit. Though, the latter ignored him.
It was also alleged that South Africans did not turn up massively for his show held there.
However, despite the numerous controversies, Burna Boy has established himself as a giant music icon in the Nigerian Afro hip hop music industry.
He has released six studio albums, with Love, Damini, and Twice as Tall being his top hits as the latter won him the 63rd Best Global Music Award (Grammy) in 2021, making him the first Nigerian male artist to win a Grammy for an original work. Besides all these, he has a huge following on social media with over 18m followers on Instagram.
