At the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, November 19, Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Rema clinched victories in the inaugural Afrobeats categories.

Burna Boy secured the Top Afrobeats Artiste award, triumphing over competitors like Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Cameroonian star Libianca.



Rema, on the other hand, claimed the Top Afrobeats Song honor with his ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring Selena Gomez, besting tracks from Ayra Starr, Oxlade, Libianca, and Victony.



Despite their success in Afrobeats, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix faced setbacks in the Top Billboard Collaboration, Top Billboard Excl. U.S. Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song, and Top Radio Song categories.

Notably, American singer Morgan Wallen dominated the awards, securing a total of 11 victories, while Taylor Swift closely followed with 10 wins.
