Power outage in your area? What Abuja DisCo’s new app lets customers do

Power outages can leave electricity customers with one immediate question: where do I report it?

For customers under the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), there is now a new digital option. The company has launched the MyPower app, which allows customers to report power outages, track complaints and access other services from their phones.

The app is part of AEDC’s effort to give customers more direct ways to manage electricity-related issues without relying entirely on physical customer service channels.

What can customers do with the Abuja DisCo app?

The MyPower app brings several customer services into one platform.

Customers can report power outages through the app and track the progress of complaints they have already submitted. This gives users a way to follow up on reported issues without repeatedly contacting the electricity distributor.

The app also provides access to electricity bills and payment services. Customers can use the platform to manage some of their account-related needs from their mobile devices.

Customers can also verify AEDC staff

One of the features that may be particularly useful to customers is the ability to verify AEDC field staff.

This gives customers a way to confirm the identity of personnel who visit their homes or businesses while carrying out official duties.

The feature could also help customers distinguish authorised AEDC personnel from individuals who may falsely claim to represent the company.

How the app could change outage complaints

Previously, customers reporting electricity faults often had to rely on customer care channels to register complaints and follow up on them.

The new app puts that process on the customer’s phone.

A customer experiencing an outage can submit a report and use the platform to monitor the complaint. The system also gives AEDC another digital channel through which it can receive and manage customer complaints.

For electricity consumers, the main benefit is having several services in one place.

The launch comes as power distributors face growing pressure to improve communication with customers. For AEDC customers, the new platform provides another way to report problems, check their accounts and follow up on complaints without leaving home.

The app does not remove the underlying challenge of power outages, but it gives customers a new way to communicate those problems to their electricity distributor.
