Oman sets 21-year minimum age for foreigners applying for work visa

Oman has set 21 years as the minimum age for foreigners applying for a work visa in the country.

The requirement is part of the conditions published by Oman’s government for employers seeking to bring foreign workers into the country. The work visa is issued at the request and responsibility of the employer.

The rule means foreigners below 21 cannot qualify for the standard Oman work visa, even if they have an employer willing to sponsor them.

Oman work visa: 4 conditions foreigners must meet

The age requirement is one of four special conditions listed by the Omani government.

First, the sponsor must be a local individual with full legal capacity. The sponsor is also responsible for the accuracy of the information provided in the application.

Second, the foreigner applying for the work visa must be at least 21 years old.

Third, the applicant’s gender must match the gender stated on the work permit issued by Oman’s Ministry of Labour.

Finally, the profession listed on the work permit must be the same as the profession stated on the visa application.

Documents required for Oman work visa

Meeting the conditions does not complete the application. Foreign workers must also provide supporting documents.

Oman’s government portal lists a copy of the applicant’s passport, a personal photograph, a copy of the work permit and a copy of the medical examination among the required documents.

The passport must also meet the validity requirements set by the authorities. The application then goes through submission, review and visa issuance.

For some professions, additional approvals may be required. The Royal Oman Police lists teaching, religious, media and medical jobs among categories that may require approval from the relevant authority.

How long Oman work visa lasts

An Oman work visa is issued for employment under an employer’s sponsorship. The Royal Oman Police says the visa is valid for two years from the date it is stamped on the passport and allows multiple entries into the country.

The government also lists a fee of 20 Omani rials for issuing the work visa. Employers and foreign workers must therefore meet both the eligibility conditions and documentation requirements before the application can be completed.

For Nigerians and other foreigners considering employment in Oman, the 21-year minimum is one of the first requirements to check before starting the work visa process.
