Ubiribo’s friendship with Davido
One of Ubiribo’s best-known public connections was his relationship with Afrobeats star Davido.
Davido reportedly described Ubiribo as a childhood friend and attended his funeral in London after his death. The singer’s presence drew further attention to Ubiribo’s life and the network of prominent people with whom he was connected.
While Ubiribo was not a mainstream entertainment personality, his friendship with Davido helped place him within the wider public conversation surrounding Nigerian celebrity culture.
What happened to Igho Ubiribo in Thailand?
Ubiribo underwent a cosmetic penis enlargement procedure in Bangkok on March 5, 2026. Evidence presented during the inquest indicated that the treatment involved injections containing hyaluronic acid and lidocaine.
After the procedure, Ubiribo and Allen reportedly went for a massage. He later began experiencing chest pain and fainted twice.
He was taken by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors reportedly suspected a pulmonary embolism and recommended a CT scan. However, he lost consciousness before the scan could be completed.
Medical staff attempted to revive him for more than 100 minutes. He died in the early hours of March 6.
A postmortem examination conducted in the United Kingdom reportedly found material in his lungs matching the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.
Coroner determines cause of death
At the Inner West London Coroners’ Court, coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic procedure.
The finding followed evidence about the injections, his symptoms after treatment and the postmortem examination.
Reports from the inquest also indicated that Ubiribo had previously undergone joint surgery. His general practitioner reportedly described him as pre-diabetic and said he suffered from gout, but no other significant medical conditions were identified in the evidence cited.
The NDLEA allegations
Ubiribo and Danielle Simba Allen were also named in a 2023 statement by Nigeria’s NDLEA.
The agency declared the couple wanted over allegations connected to an international drug-trafficking syndicate. The case followed the seizure of 32.70 kilogrammes of “Loud”, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in cartons of used clothing at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport in November 2022.
The NDLEA alleged that Ubiribo and Allen were linked to a syndicate operating from Los Angeles and accused them of recruiting teenage girls into drug trafficking. The agency said the couple had been invited for questioning but failed to appear.
These claims remain allegations by the NDLEA. They should not be presented as proof of criminal conduct or as a conviction.
Why Ubiribo’s death has attracted attention
Ubiribo’s death has received widespread attention because of the unusual circumstances surrounding the cosmetic procedure and the coroner’s direct finding linking it to the fatal embolism.
His public profile, marriage to Allen, friendship with Davido and earlier appearance in an NDLEA investigation have also contributed to interest in his story.
For many followers, the case has raised questions about the risks associated with injectable cosmetic treatments and the importance of receiving such procedures from properly qualified medical professionals.
Ubiribo was buried in London, where Davido and other prominent figures reportedly attended the funeral.
