Euroculture scholarship 2027: funding and how to apply

The Euroculture scholarship application round for the 2027–2029 intake is open, with complete Erasmus Mundus funding applications due by 15 January 2027. The consortium’s official scholarship page confirms support for the programme starting in September 2027, including a monthly living allowance and waived tuition fees.

Applicants should use the consortium’s own system. The University of Groningen’s official programme listing warns that applications sent through Studielink without prior approval from the Euroculture Board of Admissions will not be accepted.

What the Euroculture scholarship pays

Under the published funding terms, recipients receive €1,400 each month during the two-year programme. The award also covers participation costs and health insurance. Funding depends on scholarship selection; an offer of a study place alone should not be treated as a funded offer.

The rules exclude applicants who have already received certain Erasmus Mundus Joint Master or PhD-level scholarships. Previous Erasmus+ mobility grants for bachelor’s or master’s study are treated differently and do not trigger that exclusion. Recipients cannot combine this scholarship with another EU grant during their Erasmus Mundus studies.

Check your degree and graduation date

Groningen’s academic entry requirements identify arts, humanities and social sciences as the relevant backgrounds, including history, international relations, political science and cultural studies. This is a subject-specific master’s; the content of your previous studies matters when choosing whether to apply.

For scholarship applicants, the official application FAQ requires proof of completed bachelor’s studies by 15 January 2027. If the diploma has not yet been issued, an official graduation statement can establish completion. Self-funded applicants have a different rule: they may apply while finishing their degree, provided they graduate before the programme begins.

English evidence is another requirement. The current admissions instructions list accepted tests and exemptions based on prior study. For IELTS Academic, the stated requirement is 6.5 overall with no section below 6.5. Read the exemption rules and any first-choice university conditions before paying for a test.

Plan for study at more than one university

Groningen describes Euroculture as an English-taught, full-time MA lasting 24 months and carrying 120 credits. The programme explores Europe through politics, culture and society, with academic study and practical experience.

The official curriculum overview makes mobility part of the degree. Students study at a minimum of two European partner universities. The first year builds foundational knowledge and research methods; later study allows a research or professional track and leads to a master’s thesis.

That structure also means planning more than one move. The curriculum page says students, including scholarship recipients, find their own accommodation, with assistance from local coordinators. Await the chosen university’s housing instructions before registering for accommodation. The programme mobility FAQ also says scholarship students’ first and second universities are assigned during selection, usually but not always following their preferences.

Prepare documents and referees together

The official document checklist specifies degree and English evidence, transcripts, a writing sample and CV, plus identification and a photograph. Check the required file formats before uploading.

Name two referees, including one academic. The secretariat sends questionnaires after submission; both must reply within two working weeks. Allow time before the scholarship deadline, because the file remains incomplete until they arrive.

Understand the self-funded alternative

The participation fee schedule waives participation fees for Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders. For self-funded non-EU/EEA passport holders, it lists €5,000 per semester, including the consortium’s health insurance, or €20,000 for the programme.

Books, accommodation, living expenses and travel sit outside those participation fees. Non-scholarship students receive no monthly living allowance from that fee package. Assess those costs before accepting a self-funded place.

Euroculture’s consortium application route is separate from national systems such as the one described in CrispNG’s Sweden master’s applications guide. Follow the instructions for the particular programme and funding award you choose.

How to apply

  1. Check your fit. Read the current admission requirements, including degree completion and English evidence.
  2. Prepare your file. Use the official document checklist and brief both referees before submitting.
  3. Create an account. Open the official application portal and choose Register. Returning applicants can log in to their saved file.
  4. Submit for funding. Complete the application in the Euroculture application portal by 15 January 2027, following the official portal instructions.
  5. Track completion. Return to the saved application account and follow up on missing documents or referee responses.

What we don’t know yet

The published scholarship deadline gives a date without a closing time or time zone. The funding page also refers to limited nationality exceptions without providing an exhaustive list. Applicants whose circumstances may be affected should ask the consortium before relying on eligibility.

Scholarship results are expected by the end of March 2027, according to the current application timetable.
