Sweden master’s applications for autumn 2027 are open through the national University Admissions service. International applicants have until 15 January 2027 to submit their choices and put them in order, with supporting documents and any required application fee due by 1 February 2027, according to the official admissions calendar.

The first round opened on 16 October 2026. It gives applicants time to arrange tuition payments, a residence permit where needed, and housing before courses begin in August or September.

Sweden master’s applications begin with eligibility

The general requirement is a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen from an internationally recognised university. Under the master’s entry requirements, individual programmes can also require previous study in particular subjects.

A degree alone therefore won’t establish eligibility for every course. Read the university’s programme description before adding it to your application, and check that your previous studies match its subject requirements.

Final-year students may also be considered. The final-year application instructions require transcripts covering completed semesters, official confirmation of current final-year enrolment, and evidence that the English requirement is met. Other requested documents and the application steps must still be completed by the deadline.

Check English evidence and country instructions

University Admissions says applicants can meet the English language requirements through an accepted test score or qualifying previous studies. The route depends on the programme and the applicant’s educational background; check the published rules before booking a test.

Document rules also depend on where you studied. Use the country document instructions alongside the university’s own requirements. If your country is absent from the list, the service directs you to its general document guidance.

Rank four choices in your preferred order

You can select up to four master’s programmes. The official ranking rules say your highest choice is considered first. If you meet its requirements and a place is available, you receive that offer and lower-ranked choices are deleted.

If you receive no offer from your first choice, the next is assessed. You can receive only one study place through this selection process, so put the programme you most want to attend first.

Changing the order after the deadline can have consequences. Deleting a choice and adding it back at another rank makes that choice a late application, which universities consider only if places remain after selection.

Separate the application fee from tuition

Most citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland pay application and tuition fees, although exemptions exist. Check the fee exemption rules against your own citizenship and residence circumstances.

The application payment instructions set a non-refundable SEK 900 fee for the semester, covering all your course and programme choices. After applying, use the Application fee section of your account to pay and check receipt. A late payment changes the application to late status.

EU, EEA and Swiss citizens must document their citizenship for exemption. The citizenship evidence instructions explain this step; missing the evidence deadline can also make an application late.

Tuition is set by each university and paid directly to it. Under the tuition payment guidance, the university supplies the amount and payment deadline after offering a place. Readers researching funding can also consult CrispNG’s Swedish STEM scholarship coverage and the award’s separate official eligibility rules.

What we don’t know yet

An individual’s admission result, final tuition bill and funding outcome cannot be established from the national calendar. Universities set programme requirements and tuition costs, while scholarship providers apply their own selection rules. Check those details for the programmes on your list before committing to a choice.

Master’s admissions results for this round are due on 1 April 2027, according to the official calendar.
