Thomas Tuchel: Can ex-Chelsea Coach break England’s World Cup curse in 2026?
Following his appointment England Thomas Tuchel will take charge of the England national team. In his first public statement, he is determined on achieving one clear goal and that is to win the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel, known for his tactical skills and ability to build strong teams, has promised to bring home the trophy.
“I can promise you I’m very excited. I’m very honoured and I will do everything so that we can qualify for the World Cup first of all, and then have a successful World Cup, try to get a second star on our shirt.” He said in a viral video.
In the last few years, England has come close to winning major tournaments. They reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the finals of Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, only to lose them. With young, talented players like Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden, England has one of the most exciting squads in international football. However, they need to get over the final hurdle to win a big tournament.
After leading Chelsea to a Champions League win in 2021 and coaching top clubs across Europe, Tuchel’s experience in managing big-name players and handling pressure will be vital for England and if he can combine England’s attacking talent with a solid defense, Tuchel could be the key to unlocking World Cup success.

One big challenge Tuchel faces is history as no foreign coach has ever won the World Cup. But Tuchel’s experience in international football, having coached in Germany, France, and England, gives him a unique advantage. If anyone can break that curse, it might just be him.
England’s squad is full of young stars who are already making a name for themselves. Combined with experienced players like Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling, Tuchel has the right mix of youth and leadership to challenge for the title. The team’s depth and talent make them one of the top contenders for 2026.
Winning the World Cup won’t be easy. England will face tough competition from teams like France, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina. To succeed, Tuchel will need to build a team that can handle the pressure and perform in the biggest moments which is something England has struggled with in the days of Gareth SouthGate.
Tuchel’s appointment gives England new hope. With a talented squad and a world-class coach, their chances of winning the 2026 World Cup look promising. However, they will need to overcome both historical obstacles and strong competition to lift the trophy.
