The National Sports Commission says Nigeria’s WAFCON champions have received the cash reward promised after their 2025 final victory.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each, while their coaches and officials received $50,000 each. The payment completes the cash component of the Super Falcons’ $100,000 reward package for their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced the payout on Monday, 2 November. Chairman Shehu Dikko said the President “has honoured his commitment to them in full”. The Commission’s official statement confirms the cash awards and says players had already received Abuja flats and national honours. Punch’s report and TheCable’s report carry the same breakdown.
What does the Super Falcons $100,000 reward cover?
The Super Falcons reward has two cash levels. The President promised each of the 24 players the naira equivalent of $100,000, while the President set the technical crew’s award at $50,000 per member. In its latest announcement, the NSC confirmed that players, coaches and officials received the cash awards.
| Part of the package | What the official records say |
|---|---|
| 24 players | Naira equivalent of $100,000 each |
| Technical crew | Naira equivalent of $50,000 each |
| Housing | Three-bedroom Abuja flats |
| National honour | Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) |
The State House announcement records the original promise: 24 players and an 11-member technical team would receive cash awards, housing and OON honours. The latest NSC notice confirms that the cash award completed the package.
How did the Super Falcons reward timeline unfold?
From the Presidential Villa pledge to the NSC’s confirmation, the payment took 15 months.
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 26 July 2025 | Nigeria beat Morocco 3–2 to win a record-extending 10th WAFCON title. |
| 28 July 2025 | Tinubu announced the cash, housing and OON rewards at a State House reception. |
| 9 September 2026 | The NSC confirmed a similar cash payout for D’Tigress. |
| 2 November 2026 | The NSC confirmed payment of the Super Falcons’ cash awards. |
The CAF match report records the 3–2 comeback in Rabat, with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Jennifer Echegini. Two days later, Tinubu announced the reward package at the State House. Meanwhile, on 9 September, the Federal Ministry of Information said D’Tigress had received its cash reward, while the Falcons were due to receive payment alerts before their next official engagements. The official update shows the Falcons’ cash award was still pending at that stage.

What had the team received before the cash?
Earlier, the cash reward completed a package that also included Abuja housing and national honours. The NSC says it had already given players and officials title documents for three-bedroom flats and OON certificates signed by the President.
That distinction matters for families and team officials tracking the full pledge: the November announcement covers the financial award, while the housing and honours formed separate parts of the same promise. Punch reported that the Federal Government formally presented housing documents to the team in Rabat in July 2026, during the 2026 WAFCON.

What does the payment mean for Nigerian athletes?
In practice, the Falcons’ payout gives a clear end point to the cash part of a high-profile national-team reward: the NSC has confirmed the players’ and officials’ amounts, while players and officials had already received their housing documents and OON certificates.
Likewise, the sequence follows the D’Tigress reward process. In September, the Federal Ministry of Information published the NSC’s confirmation that each basketball player received the naira equivalent of $100,000 and team officials received $50,000 after Nigeria’s fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title. The Super Falcons’ payment now carries the same cash structure across another national women’s team.
As a result, the players have a completed financial commitment tied to their 10th continental title. For younger athletes watching the national teams, the official timeline shows how a public reward moves from a presidential announcement through the finance process to a confirmed payout.
