The Skukuza main gate closure is planned for Monday, 2 November, to Friday, 4 December 2026 for roof repairs, SANParks has announced. The work affects the entrance to Skukuza Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park.

Visitors will use a temporary camp entrance during the work, with an alternative access point for vehicles and pedestrians.

Skukuza main gate closure: where to enter

In its 26 October notice, SANParks directs visitors to Hippo Circle Street, the road leading to the Skukuza Medical Doctor/Surgery. Access to the temporary entrance will be through AM Spa and Skukuza Safari Lodge.

SANParks asks motorists and pedestrians to follow the directional signs and instructions from park staff so they can move safely through the temporary entrance.

Letaba Herald also reported the closure on 26 October. Kruger communications general manager Rey Thakhuli told the publication that signboards would guide visitors at strategic locations.

Is 4 December a guaranteed reopening date?

No. SANParks expects the project to finish by 4 December, subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Visitors travelling towards the end of the planned closure should check the announcement again before relying on the main entrance being available.

The roof work forms part of SANParks’ infrastructure maintenance programme. The organisation says the programme aims to keep park facilities safe and functional.

What visitors should check before travelling

  • Your travel dates: the announced closure starts on 2 November. Factor the temporary entrance into visits during the planned work period.
  • The camp approach: plan to follow the signed temporary entrance via Hippo Circle Street during the work.
  • Any revised notice: the completion target could change. Follow updated park instructions rather than assuming the roof repairs are finished.
