A Nigerian-born US Naval Officer, Oriola Michael Aregbesola, tragically lost his life in the Red Sea after falling overboard during operations. 

The US Navy confirmed his death, identifying him as Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Oriola Michael Aregbesola. 



Aregbesola, assigned to the “Swamp Foxes” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 74, was deployed aboard Mason in November in the US 5th Fleet. 

Commander Eric Kohut praised Aregbesola’s selfless dedication, emphasizing his outstanding performance.

Aregbesola, from Florida, joined the Navy in July 2020 and shared his journey from unemployment to Navy service, highlighting the Navy’s recognition of his potential.
