NIMC begins self-service: Here’s how to update your NIN details without stress

Seamfix

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a new online Self-Service Modifications portal, allowing Nigerians to update their National Identification Number (NIN) details at their convenience.

This service enables users to modify personal information such as name, phone number, date of birth, and address without needing to visit NIMC offices in person.

To use this service, your phone number must be linked to your NIN. Here’s how you can update your details:

Via Mobile Shortcode:

1. Dial *346# on your mobile phone.

2. Select “NIN Modification” from the menu.

3. Enter your 11-digit NIN for verification.

4. Choose the details to update (e.g., Name, Date of Birth, Address).

5. Enter the new information and confirm its accuracy.

6. A confirmation code will be sent via SMS; enter it to finalize the process.

7. A message will confirm that your NIN has been successfully updated.

If you need to change the phone number linked to your NIN, a police report is required, especially if the change is due to a lost or stolen phone.

The NIMC was established in 2010 following the enactment of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act, 2007, by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
