NDC campaign council leaders named for 2027
Illustration: the NDC has named its senior campaign council posts ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Bayelsa governor Henry Seriake Dickson will lead the NDC campaign council. Presidential candidate Peter Obi will serve as co-chair. Vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will be co-vice-chair.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress announced the appointments on Sunday, 25 October. It plans to inaugurate the council in Abuja on Monday, a day after releasing the leadership list.
The NDC says the council will provide strategic leadership. It will coordinate campaign activity nationwide and mobilise support for the party’s stated vision. The appointments answer who holds several senior posts. They leave another question open: how will political leadership connect to the work of reaching candidates and supporters?
How the NDC campaign council is arranged
Dickson is the NDC’s national leader. Obi is its presidential candidate. National Chairman Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe will serve as vice-chairman, while Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate, will serve as co-vice-chairman.
That puts the party’s national leader, its national chair and its presidential ticket in the council leadership. The party has listed other named jobs below that senior group. They cover campaign management and specific functions.
Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim will direct the presidential campaign as director-general. Osa Director will lead communication and media. Retired Major General John Enenche will oversee security and intelligence, according to Channels Television.
The list therefore identifies a council leadership and campaign directorates. The statement describes the council’s broad task as coordination and mobilisation. It leaves the relationship between those roles unexplained.
Channels also reports a 40-member National Campaign Advisory Council and 37 state campaign coordinators. These are separate groups on the list, not a verified headcount for the full council. The numbers show a national advisory layer and a state-level coordination layer.
The announcement does not say how advisers will guide the campaign or how state coordinators will connect to local government and ward teams. That matters because naming a national structure is only one part of organising work across the country. The party has not published the assignments or reporting route for those teams.

From the party’s 2027 plan to named roles
This is an organisational step in a process the NDC has outlined this year. In May, CrispNG’s zoning report covered the party’s announced South-to-North presidential rotation plan.
Sunday’s announcement adds names to the party’s campaign structure. It still leaves the policy offer and operational plan for another day. The statement sets out a national coordination brief. It does not list policy proposals, state targets or a campaign calendar.
How the NDC campaign council fits into Monday’s programme
The NDC scheduled a National Executive Committee meeting for 10am on 26 October. It chose the JD Vance Centre in Maitama, Abuja. The party then planned to commission its new Jabi secretariat at 2pm.
The council’s inauguration was set for 5pm. The party said it would also present Certificates of Return to its candidates. It restricted the NEC meeting to members and limited the inauguration to invited party officials and candidates, according to the event schedule.
That schedule puts party governance, its administrative base and campaign leadership on the same day. The next practical test is whether central appointments connect to state coordinators and local campaign teams. At the same time, the announcement gives no operating plan for that link.
What we don’t know yet
The party has not explained the directorates’ budgets or decision-making powers. It has also left their reporting lines and work calendar unstated. Voters still have no policy programme attached to the party’s stated aim of an “issue-based campaign.”
Reports also conflict over the council secretary’s title. Channels quotes the party statement naming National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu as council secretary. Voice of Nigeria calls Abdulkarim secretary as well as director-general.
The public accounts do not explain whether one title refers to the wider council and the other to the presidential campaign. Until the party clarifies that point, the distinction remains open.
The announced 5pm inauguration in Abuja is the next event to watch. The party says it will present candidates’ Certificates of Return during the programme.
