Who qualifies for the £4,000 Hertfordshire scholarship?
The award is for international postgraduate taught applicants making their first entry to the university’s UK campus in January 2027. Candidates need an offer for a full-time, award-bearing programme, must accept that offer and must pay their tuition fees from their own resources directly to the University of Hertfordshire.
Students joining an undergraduate or research degree fall outside this award. The university also excludes MSc Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging, MSc Paramedic Science (Pre-Registration), PgDip Outdoor Education, pre-sessional English, online courses and programmes delivered through Hertfordshire International College (HIC). University of Hertfordshire and HIC graduates are excluded from this first-entry award.
Applicants should review the programme exclusions before paying a deposit. The university’s general page also lists a Chancellor’s International Scholarship for new international undergraduate and postgraduate taught students, worth between £500 and £4,000, with automatic assessment. The Super Early Bird award carries a separate £5,000 deposit condition for eligible postgraduate taught students. Combining the two awards requires exceptional approval from the university.
When must the £5,000 deposit reach the university?
The deadline is 31 October 2026, and the university says the funds must have cleared into its bank account by then. A payment initiated on the deadline may take time to settle, so applicants should check their payment method and bank processing times with the university before making a last-minute transfer.
The £5,000 is a tuition deposit toward course fees. The university credits the £4,000 award to tuition fees after registration. Students who have paid all tuition fees in full may use the scholarship toward university accommodation, subject to the published terms; that use excludes the refundable £150 accommodation deposit.
The award covers the first year of entry only. Applicants who defer may qualify if they meet every condition and paid the deposit by the deadline. The university also says the award can be combined with its Full Payment Discount when the full fee is paid by 8 February 2027.
How to secure the University of Hertfordshire scholarship
- Check that your programme is a full-time postgraduate taught course starting at the UK campus in January 2027, and review the university’s award conditions for exclusions.
- Hold and accept an eligible offer through the university’s admissions instructions. International applicants applying outside UCAS can use the university’s application form. The January 2027 intake is open; the admissions page lists processing restrictions for Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan under the UK visa brake.
- Confirm your self-funded status and the exact tuition deposit amount in your applicant account or offer documents. The scholarship condition specifies a minimum £5,000 deposit.
- Arrange payment early enough for at least £5,000 to clear into the university’s account by 31 October 2026. Keep the payment confirmation and contact the university’s admissions or fees team if you need to check receipt.
- After registration, review your student fee account for the £4,000 tuition award. The university says eligible students receive it automatically, so a separate scholarship form is unnecessary.
