Canada Invites 5,000 Immigrants: Check the Score and Requirements to Qualify
Canada has invited 5,000 candidates to apply for permanent residence through its Express Entry immigration system, but applicants must meet specific French-language requirements and achieve the required points to qualify.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 5,000 invitations to apply for permanent residence on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in a draw targeting candidates with French-language proficiency.
The latest selection recorded a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 407, giving eligible candidates with lower scores a new opportunity to receive an invitation.
However, the draw does not represent 5,000 unrestricted immigration slots for anyone who wants to relocate to Canada. Candidates must qualify for the relevant immigration category and meet the selection criteria.
What is Canada’s latest immigration requirement?
The October 27 selection was Express Entry draw number 452. It targeted candidates eligible under the French-language proficiency category.
According to the draw results, applicants needed a minimum CRS score of 407 to be considered for an invitation.
The threshold fell by 28 points from the previous French-language draw on October 16, when Canada issued another 5,000 invitations with a minimum score of 435.
However, achieving 407 points alone does not guarantee an invitation. Candidates must also satisfy the category requirements and the applicable tie-breaking rule.
For applicants who scored exactly 407 points, the system prioritised profiles submitted before July 13, 2026, at 19:22 UTC.
Who qualifies for Canada’s permanent residence invitation?
The latest draw specifically targeted candidates with French-language proficiency who were eligible for Express Entry.
Applicants must first qualify for an eligible Express Entry programme. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Candidates also need to meet the French-language category requirements.
For this category, applicants generally need French-language test results demonstrating at least a level 7 in all four language abilities under the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC).
These abilities are speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Candidates must take an approved French-language test and provide valid results. They must also meet the eligibility requirements of the immigration programme under which they enter the Express Entry pool.
Meeting the minimum language requirement does not automatically guarantee selection because candidates are ranked according to their CRS scores.
How does Canada’s CRS points system work?
Canada uses the Comprehensive Ranking System to rank eligible Express Entry candidates.
The system awards points based on factors such as age, education, language proficiency and work experience. Additional points may apply in certain circumstances, including qualifying Canadian work experience or a provincial nomination.
French-language proficiency can also improve a candidate’s immigration prospects through category-based selection and applicable additional CRS points.
Candidates who have not received an invitation may improve their profiles by increasing their language scores, gaining qualifying work experience or obtaining additional educational qualifications.
However, the benefits depend on each applicant’s circumstances and the relevant immigration rules.
How can Nigerians apply for Canadian permanent residence?
Nigerians who meet the requirements can begin by checking their eligibility for an Express Entry programme and calculating their potential CRS score.
Eligible candidates can then create an Express Entry profile through the official Canadian immigration website.
After entering the pool, candidates must wait for a draw for which they qualify. Receiving an invitation allows them to submit an application for permanent residence, but it does not guarantee final approval.
Applicants should prepare supporting documents, including language test results, educational credentials and relevant employment records, according to their programme’s requirements.
