The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is a stage where footballing giants in Africa showcase their prowess, and Nigeria, with its rich football history, has always been considered a strong contender.

However, in recent years, the Super Eagles have faced challenges in living up to the high expectations set by their star-studded lineup.

The Super Eagles have been grouped with Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau for the group stage of the 2023 AFCON scheduled to hold between 13th January and 11th February 2024.

Notwithstanding the individual talent, the team doesn’t always seem cohesive and lacks the understanding and fluidity needed to win big tournaments.

José Peseiro will have to find a way around this weakness if he is going to lead the Super Eagles to their fourth AFCON glory and the first since 2013. Also, The unpredictable nature of football and the formidable competition in AFCON might also come into play and demand that the Super Eagles remain focused, adaptable, and determined throughout the tournament.
