Who is Descushiel? Meet the actress trending for national anthem gaffe
Nigeria’s national anthem, titled “Arise, O Compatriots”, holds significant pride and meaning for Nigeria and its people. It was created by a collaboration of three talented Nigerians – a composer, Pa Benedict Odiase, and two lyricists, John A. Ilechukwu and Eme Etim Akpan.
The anthem was officially adopted in 1978, twelve years after Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule. The composition of the national anthem began with a search for a suitable anthem that could embody the values and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
Pa Benedict Odiase, a renowned composer and conductor, was given the task of composing the music, while Ilechukwu and Akpan were responsible for crafting the lyrics. Together, they aimed to create an anthem that could inspire unity, and love for the country, and promote the shared dreams of Nigerians.

Who is Descushiel?
Mercy Isoyip, popularly known as Descushiel, a multi-talented actress, rapper, and singer, has issued a public apology for her flawed rendition of the national anthem during a conference and retreat for senior police officers in Owerri, Imo state capital.

Clad in a police uniform specifically for the event, Descushiel’s botched performance of the anthem quickly went viral, leaving Governor Hope Uzodinma and other attendees in a state of bewilderment.
As the video clip of her rendition circulated on social media platforms, Descushiel expressed her remorse and extended her apologies to the Nigerian police force, citizens, and dignitaries present at the event.
She acknowledged the importance of the national anthem and admitted that her performance was subpar. Descushiel also assured her fans and the public that she would be more cautious in the future and strive to prevent it.
