Two weeks ago, a group of executives visited Nigeria in response to the country’s crackdown on cryptocurrency trading platforms. 

However, upon arrival, they were detained by the national security adviser’s office and had their passports confiscated. Among those detained were Binance Africa’s Regional Manager, Nadeem Anjarwalla, and his colleague Tigran Gambaryan, who is in charge of financial crime compliance. 



They were detained under suspicion of tax evasion and other financial crimes.

Anjarwalla, a 38-year-old British citizen with Kenyan citizenship, reportedly escaped from EFCC custody. 



According to Premium Times, he fled the Abuja guest house where they had been detained. Nigerian authorities are now attempting to locate him and bring him back into custody.

Who is Nadeem Anjarwalla?

Before Binance, Nadeem was a Partner at Global Founders Capital, overseeing investments across Africa in early-stage tech-enabled businesses. 



He advised numerous investments, aiding in operations and scalability—a theme continued as General Manager at Uber Eats, where he expanded the service in Sub-Saharan Africa.
