President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Nkiruka Chidia Maduekwe as the new director-general/chief executive officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday, June 9, by the presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, who stated that Maduekwe is to serve as acting DG/CEO of NCCC pending her confirmation by the NCCC supervisory council.

Maduekwe is also to serve as the co-chairperson of the Intergovernmental Committee on National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP).

Ajuri stated that her appointment aligns with Tinubu’s “commitment to actualize Nigeria’s green industrial vision, boost investor confidence, and unlock sustainable economic value through various climate finance instruments.”

Maduekwe succeeds Salisu Dahiri, the first DG of NCCC, whom she served as legal adviser.
