Bright Osayi Samuel: How Nigerian player became boxer to fight off pitch invaders

Following the Turkish Super Lig match between Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor, chaos erupted during post-match celebrations. 

Trabzonspor fans, who had been tossing objects onto the field, stormed the pitch, leading to clashes with Fenerbahçe players. 

Bright Osayi Samuel, 26, a Nigerian defender, was captured on camera exchanging punches with a masked Trabzonspor fan.

Despite security’s intervention, Osayi-Samuel continued the altercation, while Michy Batshuayi, a former Chelsea and Crystal Palace forward, also got involved. 

Amidst the chaos, Fenerbahçe secured a 3-2 victory, with Batshuayi scoring the decisive goal. 

Osayi-Samuel, has been a key player since joining Fenerbahçe from QPR in 2021, while Batshuayi, 30, boasts a diverse career across Europe, including stints in the Premier League.

Reaction

In the wake of the Trabzonspor – Fenerbahçe game, Minister of Internal Affairs, Ali Yerlikaya, declared the commencement of an inquiry.

Yerlikaya stated, “Following tonight’s football match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe, initiatives to identify field intruders and probe post-match incidents were promptly initiated.”
