BBC investigation: What Nigerians are saying about TB Joshua

In “Disciples: The Cult of T.B. Joshua,” a gripping 150-minute investigation by BBC Africa Eye, the intricate controversy surrounding the late Nigerian pastor, Temitope Joshua (T.B. Joshua), unfolds.

Released on Monday, the documentary skillfully meshes firsthand accounts from 25+ witnesses collected during a meticulous two-year probe.

Shocking revelations emerge, painting a vivid picture of allegations spanning sexual assault, physical abuse, and the orchestration of fabricated miracles, unraveling the enigmatic legacy of the charismatic preacher.

The late pastor, who passed away on June 5, 2021, at the age of 57, enjoyed immense influence and wealth during his lifetime as the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos.

Following the documentary’s unveiling, the internet has become a battleground of diverse opinions among Nigerians, with prominent figures like Dele Momodu and Femi Fani-Kayode adding their voices to the unfolding narrative, shedding light on the multifaceted legacy of a man once celebrated for his prophetic abilities and charismatic aura.

However, in this report, Crispng.com will document what some Nigerians are saying about T.B Joshua in relation to the BBC’s investigation.

SCOAN reacts

The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) remains silent on the allegations in the BBC documentary. Despite the BBC’s attempt to seek comment, SCOAN refrained from addressing specific claims, emphasizing that previous accusations against T.B. Joshua lacked substantiation.

Old videos resurfaced showing Joshua predicting betrayal by some followers, referred to as ‘Disciples,’ adding an intriguing layer to the unfolding controversy.

Nigerians reaction

As divergent opinions echo the corridors of social media in response to the BBC documentary, certain influential Nigerians express unwavering support for the late clergyman, T.B. Joshua, and his church.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a staunch supporter and friend of the late pastor, took to his X account to assert that neither man nor institution, not even the BBC, can tarnish the enduring legacy established by Joshua. Emphasizing Joshua’s positive impact, Fani-Kayode commemorated his contributions to the Church, Christian faith, humanity, and Nigeria.

Similarly, Dele Momodu, a renowned Nigerian journalist and publisher of Ovation International Magazine, dismissed the documentary as a “free advert” for the late televangelist. Momodu highlighted the challenges Joshua faced during his lifetime and lamented his absence to defend himself amid posthumous controversies.
