The Abeokuta-Lagos corridor remains one of the busiest transport routes in southwestern Nigeria, witnessing heavy commercial and passenger traffic daily.

Road safety experts have repeatedly warned that speeding and overloading continue to rank among the leading causes of fatal crashes across the country.

The incident also comes amid increased travel activities ahead of festive celebrations, a period often associated with higher accident rates on major highways.

FRSC Issues Fresh Warning to Motorists

Reacting to the tragedy, Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to prioritise safety at all times.

He advised drivers to avoid speeding, overloading, and dangerous driving practices capable of endangering lives.

“The Sector Commander further advised drivers to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and regulations, especially during this festive period, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility,” the FRSC statement noted.

The agency also reiterated its commitment to rapid emergency response and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing road crashes across Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

Rising Road Crash Cases Renew Calls for Stricter Enforcement
