Why US Embassy Lagos Consulate would shutdown operations on Monday

On Sunday 16th February 2025, the United States Embassy in Nigeria announced a closure of its operation on Monday 17th February 2025 in honour of the renowned President’s Day.
PunchOnline revealed that this information was contained in a statement released on the X channel of the Embassy which stated the closure and opening of embassy operations.

The statement says, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, 18 February 2025.”
What to know about US President’s Day
It is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday of February by the United States and its arms of operation in the world.
The day is held in honour of US famous president George Washington who was born on February 22, 1732. to mark his birthday.
The holiday was first officially established in 1879 as Washington’s birthday. But in 1971 it was moved to the third Monday of February under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to provide more week-days holidays for workers, and it has been commonly known as President’s Day since then.
