WAFCON 2022: Morocco edge resilient Super Falcons to reach first-ever final
The Super Falcons of Nigeria fail to earn a 10th final match appearance after losing 4-5 on penalty to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Nigerian team held the Atlas Lionesses to a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes despite playing with nine players as Halimatu Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade got red cards in the game.
The Falcons’ hopes of qualifying for another historic WAFCON final were, however, dashed during the penalty shoot-out.
This makes it the first time in history that Morocco would qualify for the WAFCON final.
The development means Morocco and South Africa would slug it out in the final of this year’s edition of WAFCON.

The feat comes a few days after the country also clinched its first-ever qualification for the Women’s World Cup scheduled to hold in Australia and New Zealand next year.
