TIMELINE: How and why Odili, Wike fell apart

Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, disclosed a strained relationship with predecessor Peter Odili due to “political differences,” while speaking to journalists in Abuja.

Wike, now FCT Minister, served from May 2015 to May 2023. Previously, he hailed Odili as a political father. However, Wike clarified their current discord, stating they no longer collaborate politically. Despite this, he regards Odili as a father figure. The specifics of their dispute remain undisclosed.

Yet, speculation suggests it may relate to Wike’s clash with current Governor Siminalayi Fubara, facing impeachment threats. Criticizing PDP leaders backing Fubara, Wike branded them “political buccaneers,” including Abiye Sekibo, Uche Secondus, Celestine Omehia, and Austin Opara, whom he ousted from the party, labeling them irrelevant.

Wike asserted Secondus’s expulsion, upheld by the court, disqualifies him from PDP membership.
