The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) shines as a symbol of excellence in African cinema, celebrating the finest talents in television and film.

Leading the pack with six awards is Funke Akindele, making her the most acclaimed actor in AMVCA‘s history. This year, she finds herself once again in contention, presenting an opportunity to further solidify her remarkable record.

With the 10th AMVCA fast approaching, excitement mounts over who will claim the prestigious golden statues come May 11th.

Here’s a rundown of the top actors boasting multiple AMVCA wins, setting the stage for another thrilling ceremony.

Funke Akindele (6)

Funke Akindele has been dominating the AMVCAs, securing six wins in total. She’s proven her talent in both comedy and drama genres. Her journey began in 2014 when she won Best Actress (Comedy) for ‘The Return of SheriKoko’. 

Two years later, she triumphed again in the same category. In the subsequent year, Akindele scooped up two more awards, one for her acclaimed series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ and another for Best Actress in a Comedy Movie or TV Series. 

In 2020, she clinched the Best Actress in a Comedy for ‘Moms At War’, and in 2022, she continued her winning streak with ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’.

Rita Dominic (3):

Rita Dominic  is an exceptional storyteller, renowned for her captivating performances that linger in the minds of audiences long after the curtains close. 

Her commitment to her artistry has been duly recognized, with three prestigious awards from the AMVCA under her belt. Among her accolades, her film ‘The Meeting’ triumphed in the ‘Best New Era’ category at the 2014 AMVCA, while her comedic prowess secured her the title of ‘Best Actress in a Comedy’ at the 2015 ceremony. 

In 2017, Dominic’s poignant portrayal in the movie ’76’ garnered her the coveted ‘Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series)’ award, further solidifying her status as a luminary in the industry.

Osas Ighodaro (3):

Osas Ighodaro‘s remarkable blend of grace and talent has led her to claim three AMVCAs. Her captivating portrayal in ‘Rattlesnake: 

The Ahanna Story earned her the prestigious ‘Best Actress in a Movie/Drama Series’ award in 2022, alongside the title of ‘Best Dressed Female’. 

The following year, her stellar performance in ‘Man of God’ secured her yet another accolade for ‘Best Actress in a Movie/Drama’.

Falz (2):

Folarin Falana, known as Falz, is a versatile artist excelling in both music and film. His talent has earned him two AMVCA awards. 

The first came in 2016 for his performance in the TV drama series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’, followed by a second win two years later for Best Supporting Actor in the movie ‘New Money’.

Oc Ukejie (2):

Oc Ukejie stands among the distinguished winners of the AMVCA. His journey commenced with a triumph as the Best Actor in a Drama for ‘Two Brides and a Baby’ in 2013. In 2016, he garnered further acclaim, clinching the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in ‘The Department’, showcasing his remarkable versatility.

Sambasa Nzeribe (2):

Sambasa Nzeribe renowned for his portrayal of complex characters, this actor has consistently embraced challenging roles that highlight the breadth of his skill.

Adesua Etomi (2):

Adesua Etomi, the gifted actress, clinched two AMVCA awards. She first shone in ‘Falling,’ claiming the ‘Best Actress’ accolade in 2016. 

Later, she wowed audiences once more, winning ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for her role in ‘The King of Boys’ in 2019.

Broda Shaggy (2):

Broda Shaggy, a two-time Best Actor in a Comedy winner at the AMVCA in both 2022 and 2023, initially made waves as a skitmaker before transitioning his comedic talents to Nollywood. 

With his unique brand of humor, he’s left an indelible mark on the film industry, carving out a distinctive niche for himself on the silver screen.

Odunlade Adekola (2):

Odunlade Adekola, hailing from the Yoruba film scene, is renowned for his comedic prowess as an actor. His performance in ‘A Million Baby’ earned him the prestigious ‘Best Actor in a Comedy’ award in 2018. 

Continuing his success, he was honored as the ‘Best Male Supporting Actor’ for his role in ‘Jankariwo’ at the 2022 AMVCA, accompanied by a N2 million prize.
