Beneficiary Biometric Enrollment Initiative

Earlier this year, SASSA rolled out its Beneficiary Biometric Enrollment (BBE) program, aimed at strengthening the integrity of the social grant system. Launched in September 2025, the initiative uses biometric verification to confirm the identities of grant recipients and prevent fraudulent claims.

Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe and SASSA CEO Themba Matlou briefed the Portfolio Committee on Social Development, highlighting both the progress and challenges of the BBE program.

Preparing Beneficiaries for the Festive Season

With December payments approaching, SASSA ensures that beneficiaries across all grant categories receive their funds on time, helping them prepare for the holidays with financial stability. Older persons will receive their payments first, followed by individuals on disability grants, and finally children and other grant recipients.

Improved Access Through Digital Solutions

SASSA continues to expand digital access for beneficiaries, allowing online applications for grants—a convenient alternative to in-person visits. Applicants only need:

  • A valid email address

  • Their identity document and any supporting documents

  • A smartphone, tablet, computer, or access to a SASSA Local Office kiosk or Wi-Fi

For those without internet access, SASSA Local Offices provide self-service kiosks and assistance to complete applications.

Why an Email Address Is Important

Providing a personal email allows SASSA to:

  • Send updates on application status

  • Notify applicants about approvals or additional requirements

  • Keep beneficiaries informed securely and efficiently

SASSA assures that all personal information submitted is treated with strict confidentiality, ensuring the privacy and safety of all recipients.

With these measures in place, millions of South Africans can look forward to a more secure and convenient social grant process during December 2025.
