Man who burnt his wife to death over alleged infidelity has confessed…uncovers many secrets you should know
In a clear case of domestic violence, a man identified as Mr. Sunday Nwaka, from Abagana, Nkolika local government, Anambra State, set his wife on fire over alleged infidelity and anger issues on Tuesday, 21st January, 2025. The result led to a third (3rd) degree burn, and the woman unfortunately couldn’t survive despite medical interventions to save her life.
However, there are some stark revelations made by the man that you should know.
Mr. Sunday, who is currently in police custody, has confessed the reasons behind his cruel act. He claimed that it was anger that pushed him into the dehumanising act against his wife. Going further, he said his wife always returned home very late in the night despite his several warnings against it. On that particular day of the incident, the wife came home by 10 pm. He was filled with rage over her disobedience, and that made him bathe her with a can of petroleum motor spirit, pick a lighter, and set her on fire.

Woman allegedly stabbed husband to death. Here’s how to avoid conflict in marriage
The deceased woman identified as Mrs. Blessing Nwaka was seen in a viral video crying, “Ije di oo,” literally implying, “marital journey, it’s marriage that made me go through this.” She lost her life on Wednesday leaving five son’s behind.
Things to know about the man who burnt his wife
Mr. Sunday Nwaka, an only son of his parents, is a welder from Abagana in the Njikoka Local Government Area. His work doesn’t bring enough money to the table; his wife, Mrs. Blessing, took over as the breadwinner of the family.
He also has two children from another woman in the North. In an interview with the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, Mr. Nwaka confessed that it was this same issue of cheating that made him divorce the first wife. In his words, the women gave him a ‘headache.’
If two women were found behaving or acting the same, with the same man, could it be that the problem is with the man? Or is the man a victim?
On further investigation, Mr. Nwaka said it was never his intention to burn his wife to death but alleged that he did so out of anger as he had no prior knowledge of his wife’s whereabouts the previous day.
He was also seen shedding tears, pleading for his children’s forgiveness. According to him, he felt so bad about what he did.
But the question is, “Is anger a justifiable claim to burn another human to death?”
However, as against his claim that he loves his wife and wouldn’t want to hurt her, it was revealed that this is not the first time he made an attempt to harm his wife. He had previously raised a bottle to smash his late wife, according to an interview with the commissioner of Women Affairs.
Meanwhile, the Anambra state government, speaking through the Women Affairs Commissioner, Mrs. Obinabo, condemned the act and assured that the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo would ensure that the suspect faces the full wrath of the law.
On his part, the Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr Dominic Ononiba, thanked the state government for her timely intervention and promised to support the children in every possible way.
Also, the women of Abagana have staged a protest march in the state for the domestic violence against Mrs. Blessing Nwaka. They advocated that justice should be meted to Mr. Sunday and he should be treated as a scapegoat to serve as a deterrent to other men in the society.
Netizens are not left out of the saga, as many voices have condemned the act and called for justice to prevail.
Currently, investigations are still going on as the family of the deceased have backed up the law to charge the man would be charged to court.
