Twitch sensation Kai Cenat is making headlines not just for his record-breaking streams, but for his philanthropic vision. During the launch of his third Mafiathon on September 2, 2025, Cenat addressed fans on the long-awaited school-building initiative in Nigeria, explaining delays, unveiling new plans, and reaffirming his commitment to see the project through.

Why the School in Nigeria Matters to Kai Cenat

Cenat’s commitment to building a school in Nigeria began in March 2024, when he visited Makoko, a densely populated waterfront community in Lagos. There, he witnessed students learning in cramped, makeshift classrooms. He pledged then to create a better learning environment: “Whatever they tell me you guys need, we’re gonna make sure you guys have it.”

Shortly after, he launched a dedicated philanthropic push, pledging that 20% of his Mafiathon 2 revenue would fund the project, including rebuilding efforts for the deteriorating structure in Makoko. That initiative set the stage for broader fundraising and transparency.

Construction Delays and Strategic Pivot

In his Mafiathon 3 livestream, Kai Cenat explained why the school project has stalled. Two representatives from Banwo & Ighodalo (Nigeria) and Enko Education (South Africa) joined the stream to detail the challenges. They described Makoko’s marshy terrain and regulatory complexities as major barriers to timely construction.

As a result, Cenat’s team decided to switch the location to Yaba, a nearby area with more stable ground and infrastructure potential. The move allows them to stay committed to delivering a long-lasting, well-built school, even if it means starting from scratch.

Fundraising Milestones & Financial Transparency

The charity effort is being managed through the Kai Cenat Foundation Inc., which currently holds over $1.13 million USD earmarked for the school project, including computers for temporary use.

To further accelerate progress, Cenat declared that 15% of all Mafiathon 3 revenue will go to the school effort, an incentive tied to his push to reach one million Twitch subscribers. While some fans raised skepticism, the streamer continues to stress transparency and deliver updates.

What’s Next: Accountability and Long-Term Vision

With the change in construction site and a clear fundraising roadmap, Cenat is laying the groundwork for accountability. He has pledged to broadcast the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the finished school, ensuring fans can witness the impact directly.

While fans await tangible progress, the project’s momentum underscores how online creators can leverage streaming platforms for social impact, blending entertainment with real-world philanthropy.
