Footballer Jesus de Miguel Dies After Collision With Goalkeeper During Match
Spanish footballer Jesus de Miguel Alameda has died at the age of 30 after a serious collision with a goalkeeper during a second-division match between Tenerife and Andorra.
Tenerife confirmed his death on Tuesday, November 3, a day after the incident at the club’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.
The collision happened seven minutes into stoppage time, with both teams tied at 2-2. Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono rushed out of his goal to clear a long ball but struck De Miguel with his knee.
The Tenerife striker fell motionless. Medical staff immediately entered the pitch to treat him before an ambulance took him to hospital.
Several players struggled to contain their emotions as the medical team attended to De Miguel. The referee later showed Owono a straight red card and abandoned the match.
Jesus de Miguel’s condition worsened after collision
Tenerife initially described De Miguel’s condition as serious but stable in a statement on Monday night.
However, the club announced the following morning that his neurological condition had worsened.
Spanish media outlet Marca reported that the striker suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported to hospital. Paramedics reportedly resuscitated him during the journey.
Tenerife later confirmed his death in an emotional statement.
“Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true, CD Tenerife announces the tragic death of Jesus de Miguel Alameda,” the club said.
It also sent condolences to his family, friends and teammates and asked the public to respect their privacy.
Andorra also expressed its sympathy. The club is co-owned by former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
