Good news for South Africa: Brazilian poultry imports are back

Chicken

Big relief for South African consumers and the food industry! After a temporary pause due to avian influenza, Brazil’s poultry exports to South Africa are officially back on the menu.

Why does this matter? This means a more stable supply of your favourite poultry products, especially the vital mechanically deboned meat (MDM) used in many affordable processed foods. Less worry about price hikes, more certainty for your weekly shop!

The Association of Meat Importers and Exporters (AMIE) confirmed the breakthrough, praising the collaborative efforts of South African and Brazilian authorities. They’ve ironed out all the veterinary certifications, ensuring safe and compliant imports from all Brazilian states, with just a few specific exceptions from the suspension period.

What’s next? Importers can now apply for new permits, and we’re looking forward to seeing Brazilian poultry back on shelves soon.

This resolution isn’t just about poultry; it’s about strengthening South Africa’s food security and keeping everyday costs down. A true win-win!
