FULL LIST: Lagos ranks ahead of Dubai, Miami, Beijing… see best cities in the world in 2024

Time Out’s global survey has positioned Lagos as the 19th best city to explore worldwide. This ranking is the result of insights from over 20,000 city dwellers worldwide and Time Out’s own editorial network. 

The assessment encompasses various factors, including food quality, cultural richness, nightlife, emotional impact, community spirit, green spaces, historical sites, and more. 

In collaboration with research firm Potentia Insight, Time Out emphasized the survey’s robustness in its Tuesday report.

Among African cities, Cape Town secured the second spot, Lagos claimed the 19th position, and Accra stood at 44. 

The report praised Lagos as a city with something for everyone, urging global citizens to explore its expanding landscape, including the Eko Atlantic City and the booming Epe on the north side of Lekki Lagoon.

Highlighting Lagos’s appeal, the report emphasized a high standard of living, with impressive percentages of locals expressing happiness, finding the city beautiful, and rating its friendliness. Specific areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ikeja’s Kuti’s Bistro, and Oniru Beach received accolades for their offerings.

Contrastingly, last year, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Lagos as the fourth-worst city globally. However, improvements in healthcare and education were noted, though corruption remains a concern.

Cape Town earned high praise for its all-encompassing beauty, cultural scene, and happiness quotient among locals. Accra stood out for its vibrancy in music, nightlife, and the arts, earning a perfect happiness score and acknowledgment for its seaside charm.

New York secured the top spot in the global ranking, celebrated for its ever-adapting and innovative spirit. Meanwhile, Vancouver claimed the 50th position, proudly declaring itself Canada’s prettiest city, with a significant percentage of locals finding it beautiful.
