 FG declares public holidays to mark the festive period

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared some days as public holidays to commemorate the festive period.

The declaration was announced in Abuja on  Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

The days listed as public holidays includes: Wednesday and Thurday  25th December and 26th December, and Wednesday Ist January 2025.



Mr Tunji-Ojo said ” The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,”

He also stated that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country and urged all Nigerians to reman committed to peaceful living the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu led administration. He closed his statement by extending felicitations to the citizens of Nigerians, wishing them a prosperous New Year.

Remember that 25th of December is the day Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. And boxing day is worldly celebrated on the 26th while January 1st, marks the new year.



In the spirit of the Christmas celebration, Nigerian Federal Government has also subsidized bus fare to 50%.

According to the guardian, the Federal Government reached signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria (ALBON), and God is Good Motors (GIGM) to implement the initiative, offering a 50 per cent subsidy on transportation costs.

According to their report, the Minister of Transport, Sa’id Alkali, directed selected transporters to move their buses to designated loading points early on December 24, 2024, to commence transportation for Nigerians seeking to benefit from the scheme for Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 celebrations.
