FA Cup quarter-final: All details as Liverpool set to dampen United’s title hopes

In their final attempt to win any silverware this season,Manchester United will host what promises to be a sensational FA Cup quarterfinal at Old Trafford on Sunday against their bitter rivals, Liverpool.

The Red Devils have had yet another dreadful season and, following an entirely unforgivable 11 Premier league losses so far, it appears that they will not be playing in the Champions League next season.

Liverpool are on fire this season and have already won the Carabao Cup and reached the UEFA Europa league quarterfinals on Thursday after beating Sparta Prague 6-1 at Anfield last Thursday but they are still in the market for more trophies and achievements as a departing gift for Jurgen Klopp who will leave at the end of the season.

In their most recent match, Man United defeated Everton 2:0 at Old Trafford. With eight shots on goal and 50 percent of the possession.

Erik Ten Hag has an entirely different reason why he is chasing the trophy as there have been doubts over his future as United manager following Sir Ratcliffe’s take over of the Manchester United.

The two English giants have a unique rivalry that spans several competitions, and this Sunday’s FA Cup draw will be their 15th meeting in the FA Cup.

However, Liverpool have been the better side in their last 10 meetings in all competitions winning five against United’s two in the northwest derby. And  three ending in draws including the most recent match between both that ended in a barren draw.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Following rests earlier this week, Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk, Harvey Elliott, and Alexis Mac Allister might all rejoin the squad. Ibrahima Konate is still recovering from a hamstring injury, therefore it is unlikely that he will be ready to play against United.

Despite taking a knock during the Sparta Prague 6-1 victory, Bobby Clark is doing fine, and Ryan Gravenberch has been training this week. The three absent talents Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diogo Jota may have the largest injury boost.

Jones is expected to return for the match against Brighton later this month, and the other two are aiming to make a comeback for the league match against United on April 7. Regarding Alisson, Ben Doak, Stefan Bajcetic, Joel Matip, and Thiago, nothing has changed.

Rasmus Hojlund, hasn’t played for United in four games Erik will be hoping he’ll be fit enough to play. After recovering from their injuries, defensemen Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks set to rejoin the team. Mason Mount is back to full training as well but the northwest derby might come too early for him.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS LIVERPOOL PREDICTION

Liverpool are on such a strong run of form right now however forms can go out of the window in this fixture. United started so well at Old Trafford against Manchester City but couldn’t finish well. I’d like to believe that the Red devils have learnt their lesson and are ready to see off their biggest rivals in British football.

Final score: 1:2 in favour of the home side.
