Their love story dates back to before Davido became the superstar he is today, during his undergraduate years at Babcock University. David Adeleke and Chioma Avril both attended the institution where he pursued a degree in music while Chioma studied Economics. He was smitten the moment he set eyes on her, but Chioma was initially unimpressed.

In an interview with YouTuber and vlogger Tayo Aina, Davido recounted their meeting: “I was in school for a year before I blew up. That was when I met my wife. I remember the day I saw her. I can never forget it. I was in a Prado, and I looked behind and saw this girl walking. It was Chioma. I told Lati, ‘Omo, I like that girl, go and call her for me.’ He called her, but she didn’t answer me at the time. Later on, she came to Lagos, and we linked up. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I got you.’”

Back in 2018, rumors of Davido and an unidentified young lady in a relationship started circulating after Snapchat videos of Davido with the lady surfaced online. In January 2018, Davido made it known that he was in a relationship after taking Chioma to a private family event in Ede, Osun state.

2018: Public Declaration

Though uncertain, it is speculated that they started dating around 2015 but kept their relationship private. In 2018, Davido introduced Chioma to the world by making her the lead in the video of his hit song ‘Assurance,’ which he wrote for her. During a December concert, he brought Chioma on stage, introduced her to his fans, and gave her a kiss, cheered by everyone present.

September 2019: Family Introduction

In September 2019, Davido surprised fans by sharing pictures of his introduction ceremony with Chioma’s family on Instagram.

September 2019: Proposal

Davido proposed to a then-pregnant Chioma during a private dinner in London, and she said yes. The stunning tear-drop diamond ring, engraved with ‘Assurance,’ cost about ₦3 million at the time. On October 20, 2019, Davido announced on Twitter that Chioma had given birth to a baby boy named David Adedeji Ifeanyi Adeleke Jr.

Davido and Chioma planned to marry in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic halted their plans.

2022: Tragedy Strikes

In 2022, tragedy struck the couple lost their son Ifeanyi to a drowning accident at their home. The three-year-old fell into a pool and was confirmed dead on arrival at a hospital in Lekki.

March 2023: Secret Wedding

In March 2023, Davido revealed in an interview with content creator and actress Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori that he and Chioma had secretly tied the knot. He said, “Just being away, you know, I had a lot to think about. Time to rest, reflect on a lot of family time, and make music again. I remade the album. Before I went on a break, I had an album ready and a tour planned. I’m married.”

June 2023: Scandals

In June 2023, two ladies, Anita Brown from America and Ivanna Bey from France, claimed to be pregnant by Davido. Brown also stated that Chioma was pregnant with twins at the time. The scandal quickly faded and remained unaddressed by Davido.

October 2023: Twins

In 2023, the couple welcomed twins in the US, bringing great joy to their fans. Speculations about the birth first surfaced online on October 10, 2023, but were unconfirmed by Davido. In a viral video posted on October 13, the happy couple was captured outside a hospital, with Chioma holding their newborn babies.
