Charlie Kirk, the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. The incident occurred around noon local time during Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour,” a series of appearances aimed at engaging students in political debates. Videos circulating on social media appeared to capture the moment shots were fired at the stage where the 31-year-old conservative activist and podcast host was addressing the audience. The event, which offered free admission to students and the public, had drawn a crowd despite prior controversy.

Kirk, known for his “Prove Me Wrong” debate challenges on college campuses and his role in mobilizing young voters for Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, was a polarizing figure at the university. A petition with more than 900 signatures had circulated in advance, urging administrators to cancel the speech due to Kirk’s “divisive rhetoric.” In the days leading up to the event, Kirk had taken to social media to express frustration over backlash against his appearances in Utah, posting, “What is going on in Utah?” Utah Valley University, the state’s largest with over 46,000 students, is located in Orem, a city that overwhelmingly supported Trump in the recent election.

Federal authorities quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. The Justice Department described the attack as a “senseless act of violence,” with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche issuing a statement expressing prayers for Kirk, whom he called “my friend.” No immediate details emerged regarding a suspect, motive, or arrests, but the involvement of federal investigators underscored the high-profile nature of the victim and the potential political implications.

President Donald Trump was among the first public figures to react, posting on Truth Social: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” The message highlighted Kirk’s stature within conservative circles, where he has built a significant following through Turning Point USA, an organization active on more than 3,500 college campuses.

As of the latest updates, no official information has been released on Kirk’s condition following the shooting. The incident has sparked widespread concern among supporters and prompted calls for enhanced security at public political events. The Justice Department’s probe continues, with further developments expected as witnesses and evidence are reviewed.
