Are You Eligible to Vote in 2027? Check INEC’s Voter Register

With the 2027 general elections approaching, Nigerians can now check the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) preliminary voter register online to confirm their registration details and identify possible errors before the final list is published.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections online, giving registered Nigerians another opportunity to check their details ahead of the polls.

The commission announced the decision on Monday, October 26, following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders about access to the register.

The register is available through INEC’s official online platform. It contains the same preliminary list that the commission displayed physically at registration areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026.

The online publication allows voters to inspect their registration details without visiting the physical display locations.

How to Check Your Name on INEC’s Voter Register

Nigerians who registered to vote can visit the INEC preliminary voter register portal to check their details.

Users should follow the instructions on the portal, sign in where required, and select the relevant location or polling unit to inspect the register.

Check that your name and other personal details appear correctly. If you cannot find your name or notice an error, seek guidance from INEC on the appropriate procedure for raising the issue.

The exercise is important because it gives registered voters an opportunity to identify omissions and incorrect entries before the commission finalises the list.

What If Your Name Is Missing?

If your name does not appear on the preliminary register, do not assume that the omission automatically means you are permanently disqualified from voting.

Instead, contact INEC through its official channels to establish the appropriate next step. Voters who identify incorrect details should also seek clarification on the applicable correction procedure.

INEC said it was processing claims and objections arising from the physical inspection exercise. The online publication is an additional measure intended to widen access to the register.

However, the online publication does not mean that registration has reopened. Checking the preliminary register is different from registering as a new voter.

When Will INEC Publish the Final Voter Register?

INEC has scheduled December 15, 2026, for the certification and publication of the final register of voters.

The commission said it would continue processing claims and objections before that date as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The preliminary register therefore gives registered voters an opportunity to inspect their details before the final list is certified.

As Nigerians prepare for the elections, checking the register can help them identify possible problems with their records early. Voters should use the official portal and contact INEC if they need clarification about their registration status.
