Dolly Parton Honoured as Guinness World Records Icon with 11 Record Titles

Country music legend Dolly Parton has been officially recognised as a Guinness World Records Icon, in celebration of a career that has not only shaped the history of country music but also left a lasting imprint on global culture.

The 79-year-old “Jolene” singer was honoured with the prestigious Guinness World Records Icon certificate at her studios in Nashville, Tennessee, as part of the organisation’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Dolly holds 11 individual record-breaking titles. These include the most consecutive decades with Top 10 album entries on the Billboard Country chart, the most studio albums released by a female country artist, and the most Grammy nominations received by a female artist in country music.

She also made history as the first country singer to receive nominations across the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards – a feat known as the EGOT, or the “Grand Slam of Showbiz.”

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, praised Parton’s enduring influence, stating: “Dolly is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated writers and performers in the history of country music… but her reach and influence extends far beyond the musical world.”

Beyond her chart-topping music, Dolly has passionately championed causes like poverty alleviation, children’s education, medical research, and her globally recognised Imagination Library, which provides free books to millions of children. These efforts, Glenday said, “propel Dolly into a different league” and mark her as “a living legend.”

Parton now joins a distinguished list of Guinness World Records Icons that includes Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Drake, Sir Paul McCartney, and Sir Elton John.

Since publishing its first edition in 1955, Guinness World Records has documented extraordinary feats across the globe and sold over 143 million books in more than 100 countries.

Dolly Parton launched her musical career with the album Hello, I’m Dolly in 1967. By the 1970s and ’80s, she had become a household name, starring in hit films like 9 To 5. Her latest album, Rockstar, dropped in 2023, and she recently collaborated with pop star Sabrina Carpenter.

The Tennessee native is also co-owner of the Dollywood Company, which runs the iconic Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer not just in music, but in entertainment and philanthropy.
