Who’s Lucky Okoro? Meet Abia Keke driver who returned N4m forgotten by passenger

A commercial tricycle (keke napep) driver in Aba, Abia State, has earned widespread praise after returning a forgotten ₦4 million to a panicked passenger. The extraordinary act of honesty has gone viral, inspiring admiration and restoring faith in everyday decency.

The Emotional Discovery

On the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025, driver Lucky Okoro picked up a Cameroonian trader at Aba Main Park and drove her to Ariaria Market. Upon her disembarking, Okoro remained in his keke and noticed a bag—left behind by the distressed passenger. Opening it, he discovered bundles amounting to ₦4 million.

Tearful Reunion at the Junction

Realizing the gravity of her loss, Okoro immediately retraced his route to Ariaria Market. He found the woman at a junction, in tears and reportedly contemplating dire actions. Witnesses say he comforted her, wiped her tears, and handed back the bag intact.

Okoro then went further to help her check into a nearby hotel so she could recover—she later covered the cost herself .

Garnering Praise and Viral Attention

The event was captured on camera, with bystanders and passersby praying for Okoro’s well-being as he returned the money . Proudly calling himself “not a mugu” (fool), he posted the story on Facebook, thanking God for guiding him .

Rich Rewards, Sparse Compensation

Despite some labeling him “mugu” for returning the cash, Okoro remained unfazed. While he didn’t receive a generous donation, the passenger later paid for his meal and a small reward. Even so, social media erupted in admiration for his moral courage and selflessness .

A Legacy of Honesty in Aba

This isn’t the first such case in Abia. In May 2025, another Aba-based keke driver, Emmanuel Obodoezie, gained recognition after returning ₦2.04 million forgotten by a trader. He was rewarded ₦1.4 million by Governor Alex Otti . These incidents are uplifting reminders of the power of integrity in everyday life.

Broader Impact and Reflections

  • Okoro’s actions have inspired calls for greater acknowledgement of honest behaviour among transport operators.
  • Commentators suggest such stories could lead to community awards, training programs, or government programs aimed at celebrating civic virtue.
  • They also challenge a cynical narrative that expects corruption, instead highlighting the capacity for ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

What Comes Next for Lucky Okoro

  • He says he’s content with doing “the right thing” and declined to identify large rewards as his motive.
  • Local community leaders are reportedly planning a recognition for him, similar to prior cases.
  • His story has sparked discussions across social media about institutionalizing recognition for everyday heroes in Nigerian cities.
