Slain After Ransom: Anambra Businessman ‘Fish Magnet’ Killed by Kidnappers.
In a chilling turn of events, unidentified gunmen have killed a prominent Anambra businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as “Fish Magnet,” despite receiving ransom payment for his release.
Onyekere, son of a notable chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was abducted late Saturday night at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, within Awka South Local Government Area. Sources revealed that the assailants stormed his compound around 10:30pm, arriving in an ash-coloured Lexus SUV. They reportedly shot him in the leg and fled the scene with him in his navy blue Toyota Corolla.
Eyewitnesses and local residents were thrown into panic as the armed kidnappers escaped through bush paths leading towards Nawfia, firing gunshots into the air. The community was left shaken by the brazen attack.
“He was taken in his own car after being shot,” a source confirmed. “Local vigilante groups and security teams immediately began search operations while authorities tracked his phone and attempted to contact the kidnappers.”
Despite efforts and the eventual payment of a ransom, the kidnappers failed to release Onyekere. He was found dead by the roadside three days later, sparking outrage and heartbreak among community members.
“He was young, vibrant, and known for his dedication to his fish business,” the source added. “His killing is a devastating blow to everyone who knew him.”
