Stun gun saga: Pastor Adefarasin granted bail… here’s all to know

Pastor Adefarasin granted bail amid stun gun saga.
Senior Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church has been granted bail by the Lagos State Police Command amid an ongoing investigation into a viral video that triggered widespread public attention. The video had suggested that the respected clergyman was seen brandishing a firearm during a traffic-related altercation—an allegation that has since been clarified by the authorities.
According to the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily turned himself in and cooperated fully with investigators. The police confirmed that the object seen in the video was not a firearm but a stun gun—a non-lethal self-defence device that delivers an electric shock to temporarily incapacitate an attacker. It is commonly used for personal protection or riot control and does not have the capacity to kill, unlike conventional firearms.
CSP Hundeyin further noted that the pastor was granted bail while investigations continue. “He honoured our invitation, and after thorough questioning and clarification, we released him on bail. The matter remains under investigation,” he said.
Addressing the situation during his Sunday sermon, Pastor Adefarasin offered a personal response to the controversy. He categorically denied owning a gun or holding a firearm license. “I have never owned a gun, I do not carry a gun, and I do not have a license for a gun,” he told his congregation. He described the entire episode as a case of sensationalism driven by clickbait content creators trying to profit from false narratives. “This was a complete lie from the pit of hell,” he said, visibly pained by the accusations.
The pastor explained that what was seen in the video was a non-lethal security device used by his team, and not something he brandished at anyone. “The policy of our church is never to respond to such falsehoods. But I will say this much: Romans 12:19 says, ‘Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord,’” he noted, urging his members to trust in God’s justice.
Pastor Adefarasin’s calm yet firm response was intended not only to clear the air but also to discourage the spread of misinformation. He emphasised the importance of standing for truth while maintaining peace, even in the face of damaging public narratives.
While the police have confirmed that no firearm was involved, the incident remains under active investigation, and the public awaits any further clarifications or updates from law enforcement.
